Local news reported that there was a gunfight lasting almost 30 minutes near the U.S. diplomatic mission in Aukar, a suburb north of Beirut.
The U.S. Embassy said the morning attack by their entrance didn't cause any injuries among their staff. Lebanese troops and embassy security responded quickly.
The Lebanese military said it sent troops to the embassy and the surrounding areas.
Back in 1983, a bombing at the U.S. Embassy in Beirut killed 63 people. U.S. officials blamed that attack on the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah.
